Editorial Policy

Our Commitment to Editorial Integrity

At Novian & Novian, LLP, every article, guide, and legal resource on this website is produced with the same rigor we bring to our casework. Our editorial process is built around three principles: accuracy, accountability, and usefulness to the people we serve.

This page explains how we research, write, review, and maintain the content you read here — and how you can contact us if you spot something that needs correcting.

Who Writes Our Content

Every substantive legal article published on this website is either:

  1. Written by a licensed attorney at Novian & Novian, LLP, or
  2. Written by a professional legal content writer working from attorney-supplied source material, and then
  3. Reviewed and approved by a licensed attorney at our firm before publication.

No article is published anonymously. Where an article has a named byline, that person is the primary author. Where content is attributed to “Novian & Novian, LLP” collectively, it has been written or reviewed by a licensed supervising attorney at the firm.

Our Research Standards

We rely on primary, authoritative sources wherever possible:

  • Statutes and case law — direct citations to California codes, published court opinions, and federal statutes where applicable.
  • Government agencies — including the California Department of Insurance, California DMV, California Department of Industrial Relations, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the U.S. Department of Justice.
  • Peer-reviewed research — for medical, safety, or scientific claims.
  • Court records and official dockets — for case outcomes and filings.

Secondary sources (news articles, industry reports) are used only when a primary source is unavailable, and they are always cited.

We do not fabricate statistics, invent quotes, or rely on AI-generated output as a substitute for attorney judgment.

Fact-Checking Process

Before any article is published on this site:

  1. Source review — every legal claim is tied to a statute, case, or official source.
  2. Attorney review — a licensed California attorney reviews the draft for legal accuracy and jurisdictional fit.
  3. Compliance review — the content is checked against the California Rules of Professional Conduct and California Business & Professions Code §6157 et seq. governing attorney advertising.
  4. Plain-language check — we aim for clear, non-jargon writing that’s useful to non-lawyers.

What We Won’t Publish

We don’t publish content that:

  • Guarantees case outcomes or settlement amounts
  • Predicts what a specific case will be worth
  • Claims unverifiable success rates
  • Presents testimonials without required disclaimers
  • Offers legal advice for a specific reader’s situation — that’s what consultations are for

Articles on this site are general legal information, not legal advice. Reading them does not create an attorney-client relationship with Novian & Novian, LLP.

Updates and Maintenance

Laws change. We update our content when:

  • A statute is amended or a new law takes effect in a jurisdiction we cover.
  • A significant appellate or supreme court decision changes how a rule is applied.
  • A reader or staff attorney identifies an inaccuracy or outdated citation.

Substantive updates are noted at the top of the affected article with a “Last updated” date. Minor edits (typos, formatting) are made silently. Older articles remain online after updates, but every published article displays the date of its most recent substantive review.

Corrections Policy

If you believe an article contains a factual error, outdated citation, or misleading statement, we want to know. Use our contact page and include the article title and what you believe is incorrect. We review every correction request and, where a correction is warranted, update the article and add a correction note at the top of the page.

Use of AI and Automation

We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and formatting — never as a substitute for attorney review. Every claim of law in every article is verified by a human attorney before publication. We do not publish AI-generated content that has not been reviewed and approved by a licensed attorney at our firm.

Advertising and Affiliate Disclosures

Novian & Novian, LLP does not accept paid placements, sponsored posts, or affiliate commissions in our editorial content. We do not recommend products or services in exchange for payment. Any attorney referrals we make are based on our professional judgment of competence and fit, not financial arrangements.

Compliance Statement

This website is a legal advertisement under California Business & Professions Code §6157 and the California Rules of Professional Conduct. The attorney responsible for its content is a licensed California attorney at Novian & Novian, LLP. For the name and bar number of the supervising attorney, please see our contact page.
